Symptoms
The controller displays a communication error between the main CPU board and the I/O expansion module. The alarm intermittently appears and resets.
Possible Causes
- Loose ribbon cable between the CPU and I/O module
- Electromagnetic interference on the communication bus
- I/O module firmware version mismatch with the CPU
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Power down the controller and reseat the ribbon cable at both ends
Ensure the cable is firmly inserted with no bent pins - Step 2: Check the controller firmware version and I/O module version on the diagnostic screen
Update the I/O module firmware if versions do not match - Step 3: Verify the control panel door ground strap is intact and connected
A missing ground strap allows EMI to disrupt communication
How to Reset
Reset: Power cycle the controller after reseating the cable. If the error persists, the I/O module may need replacement.
Common Replacement Parts
- Ribbon cable: 26-pin, 150mm length (Match to controller model)
- I/O expansion module: 8 digital in / 8 digital out (Verify firmware compatibility before ordering)
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: How do I check firmware versions?
Navigate to Menu > Diagnostics > System Info on the controller display. Both CPU and I/O versions are listed.
- Q: Can I run with a communication error?
Intermittent errors may allow operation but I/O control is unreliable. Fix before relying on automatic mode.
