Symptoms

Transmission shifts erratically; warning lamp for clutch slippage.

Possible Causes

  • Clutch pack friction plates glazed or worn below minimum thickness.
  • Transmission control valve spool sticking.
  • Transmission oil filter bypass valve stuck open allowing dirty oil.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Step 1: Drain transmission oil and inspect for clutch material in pan.
Oil clean; no large friction material accumulation.
  2. Step 2: Measure clutch pack clearance with feeler gauge via inspection cover.
    Clearance 0.8–1.2 mm within specification.
  3. Step 3: Perform transmission clutch solenoid output test via Service Advisor.
Solenoid activates audibly; current draw 1.2–1.5 A.

How to Reset

Replace clutch pack and filter; flush transmission with JD Hy-Gard; recalibrate clutch fill times.
