Symptoms
Engine suddenly loses power and emits black smoke under load.
Possible Causes
- Turbocharger compressor blade damaged or intake hose leaking.
- Fuel injection timing retarded due to worn cam sensor.
- Air filter severely clogged reducing intake air mass.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Inspect turbo compressor wheel for blade tip damage.
Blades intact; no contact marks on housing. - Step 2: Check intake hose clamps and intercooler for oil traces.
No leaks; pressure test holds 200 kPa without decay. - Step 3: Measure injection timing with timing light per service manual.
Timing within ±1° of specification at idle. - Step 4: Check air filter restriction indicator.
Indicator not red; filter vacuum < 3.5 kPa.
How to Reset
Replace turbocharger or intake hose; adjust timing; replace air filter if restricted.
