Symptoms
The engine may not start, or multiple warning lights illuminate simultaneously. The scan tool may be unable to communicate with the engine control module. DTC U0111 is stored by a control module that lost communication with the ECM/PCM module.
Possible Causes
- CAN bus wiring fault between ECM and other modules
- ECM power supply or ground fault
- ECM internal failure
- CAN bus termination resistor fault
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Connect a diagnostic scanner and read all module DTCs to confirm U0111
DTC U0111 is present; note which module logged the code - Step 2: Check CAN bus wiring between the affected modules for continuity, shorts, and termination resistor values
CAN high and low lines intact, 60 ohms across the bus - Step 3: Verify power and ground supplies to the affected module
