Symptoms
The adjustable speed drive (ACS880) within the MCC reports overcurrent fault F0001. The drive trips and the motor coasts to a stop. The fault code is displayed on the drive keypad.
Possible Causes
- Rapid acceleration ramp causing current to exceed the drive limit
- Motor cable short-circuit or ground fault at the drive output
- Incorrect motor parameter settings (nominal current, power factor)
- Mechanical load suddenly increased beyond the motor rated torque
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Extend the acceleration ramp time in the drive parameters (typically group 22)
Current stays within 110% of motor nominal during acceleration - Step 2: Measure the motor cable insulation and check for shorts at the drive output terminals
Megger reading >10 MOhm and no phase-to-phase shorts detected - Step 3: Verify motor nameplate data is correctly entered into drive parameter group 99
Rated current, voltage, frequency, and speed match the motor nameplate exactly - Step 4: Inspect the mechanical load for jams, seized bearings, or excessive friction
Load rotates freely and torque requirement is within motor capability
How to Reset
Reset the drive fault by pressing the reset button on the keypad or via the fieldbus command. Restart the drive only after confirming the cause is resolved and parameters are correct.
