ABB ACS580 VFD Fault Code 3210

ABB Electrical Critical Voltage

Model: ACS580 | Code: 3210

Applicable Systems
ACS580 ACS880 ACS510 ACS550 ACS800

Symptoms

The DC intermediate circuit voltage has exceeded the overvoltage trip limit. This typically occurs when regenerative energy from motor deceleration cannot be absorbed by the braking resistor.

Possible Causes

  • Regenerative braking energy exceeds braking resistor capacity
  • No braking resistor installed or resistor is damaged
  • Input voltage is too high
  • Deceleration time is too short for the load inertia

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Step 1: Check if a braking resistor is installed and properly connected
Resistor is connected with correct resistance value
  2. Step 2: Measure the input voltage to confirm it is within the rated range
Voltage is within +/-10% of rated
  3. Step 3: Increase deceleration time to reduce regen energy
No overvoltage trip with longer deceleration
  4. Step 4: If problem persists, install a larger braking resistor or ABB active rectifier unit
    Regen energy is safely handled

How to Reset

To reset: 1) Reduce regen energy (longer decel time or braking resistor). 2) Press RESET. 3) Restart.
