Symptoms
The generator set reports a loss of excitation. The alternator excitation field has been lost.
Possible Causes
- Exciter winding failure
- Automatic voltage regulator failure
- Excitation circuit breaker or fuse tripped
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the excitation system voltage
Voltage is present at the exciter - Step 2: Verify the AVR operation
AVR delivers correct excitation current - Step 3: Check the excitation circuit protection
Protection is reset or fuse is good
How to Reset
To reset: Restore excitation, then reset the protection.
