Symptoms
Water in fuel warning lamp active; engine may lose power; potential injector damage risk.
Possible Causes
- Water accumulated in fuel water separator bowl
- Fuel contamination from storage tank
- Fuel filter water drain blocked
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Drain water from fuel water separator bowl
Bowl drains completely, no water visible - Step 2: Replace primary fuel filter/water separator element
New filter element installed correctly - Step 3: Check fuel storage tank for water contamination
Fuel sample clear, no water layer - Step 4: Bleed fuel system of air (primer pump method)
Fuel flows without bubbles at bleed screw - Step 5: Clear code with Cat ET and run engine 5 min at idle
No warning lamp, code inactive
How to Reset
Clear with Cat ET after fuel system service.
