Applicable Systems
Electra Saver
Symptoms
Oil filter bypass indicator is active, meaning the filter differential pressure has exceeded the bypass valve cracking pressure. Unfiltered oil may be circulating through the system.
Possible Causes
- Oil filter element severely clogged from extended service interval or degraded oil
- Wrong oil viscosity causing high flow resistance through the filter media
- Oil filter housing internal bypass valve stuck open by debris or worn spring
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the service hours since the last oil filter change
Replace the spin-on filter if hours exceed 2000 or the bypass indicator is active - Step 2: Inspect the used filter for sludge, metal particles, or gelled oil
If abnormal contamination is found, drain the oil, flush the system with flushing oil, and refill with fresh AEON 9000 SP - Step 3: Remove and inspect the filter housing bypass valve - it should be closed at rest and open only above 1.5 bar differential
Replace the bypass valve if it is stuck open or the spring is weak - Step 4: Verify the oil viscosity grade matches the specification label inside the service door
Drain and refill with ISO VG 46 synthetic if a heavier grade was mistakenly used
How to Reset
Reset: Replace the oil filter and bypass valve if needed, then press the Service Reset button. The alarm clears after a 5-minute loaded run with differential pressure below 0.5 bar.
Common Replacement Parts
- GD-1030: Oil filter element, Electra Saver (Spin-on, 108 mm OD x 200 mm height)
- GD-1031: Oil filter bypass valve kit (Spring, poppet, and housing O-rings)
- GD-1032: AEON 9000 SP flushing oil, 10L (Low-viscosity detergent oil for system flush)
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Is it safe to run with the bypass open?
Temporarily for a few hours to finish a critical process, but unfiltered oil accelerates wear. Change the filter at the earliest safe shutdown.
- Q: Why is my oil filter clogging so fast?
Check for coolant or solvent contamination from nearby processes, or verify the intake filter is not missing - unfiltered intake air accelerates oil contamination.
