Symptoms

Oil separator differential pressure has reached the service limit of 0.8 bar (12 psi). The compressor continues running but efficiency is reduced and oil carryover to the plant air may increase.

Possible Causes

  • Separator element saturated with oil sludge from extended oil change intervals
  • Foaming oil due to contamination with incompatible chemicals or coolant
  • Excessive oil level in the sump causing the separator to work harder

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Step 1: Record the current runtime hours and compare to the last separator service date
If hours since last change exceed 4000, replace the separator element and inspect the scavenge line
  2. Step 2: Check the oil sight glass - oil level should be at the center mark while the compressor is running loaded
Drain excess oil to the correct level if overfilled; verify with the dipstick when cooled
  3. Step 3: Inspect the scavenge line from the separator base to the airend inlet for kinks or blockage
Blow through the line with shop air and verify free flow of oil/air mixture back to the sump

How to Reset

Reset: Replace the separator element, verify the scavenge line is clear, and press the Service Timer Reset on the Xe-Series controller. The alarm clears after a successful 5-minute run.

Common Replacement Parts

  • 2342-4957-00: Separator element, R 37-45 (Flanged, 200 mm OD x 450 mm height)
  • 2342-4960-00: Scavenge line hose, 1.5 m (Oil-resistant synthetic rubber, 12 mm ID)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: What happens if I ignore this alarm?

Oil carryover increases, contaminating downstream filters and pneumatic tools. Eventually the separator can collapse and release debris into the airend.

  • Q: Do I need to change the oil when changing the separator?

Not always, but if the oil is dark, smells burnt, or has visible particles, change it at the same time. Use only Ultra Coolant or equivalent.
