Symptoms
The KUKA robot controller displays error KSS00001, indicating an emergency stop condition. The robot has been stopped by activation of an emergency stop button.
Possible Causes
- Emergency stop button on the KCP teach pendant pressed
- External emergency stop button on the safety fence pressed
- Emergency stop circuit wiring fault or break
- Safety controller detected an emergency stop signal from any connected safety device
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check all emergency stop buttons in the system
All E-stop buttons must be in the released (pulled out) position - Step 2: Inspect emergency stop circuit wiring for breaks or loose connections
Wiring must be continuous through all E-stop devices in the safety chain - Step 3: Verify safety fence door interlocks are closed
Safety doors must be closed and latched for the robot to operate - Step 4: Press the acknowledge/reset key on the KCP to clear the error
After the E-stop condition is resolved, the error must be acknowledged on the teach pendant
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Release all pressed emergency stop buttons. 2) Close all safety doors. 3) Press the acknowledge key on the KCP. 4) Re-start the robot program. Caution: The robot will restart from a safe position. Always verify that the area around the robot is clear before acknowledging an E-stop.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Can I override the emergency stop on a KUKA robot?
No. The emergency stop function is a safety-critical circuit that cannot be overridden in automatic mode. In manual T1 mode, the robot can be moved slowly with the deadman switch for recovery purposes.
- Q: What happens to the robot program when KSS00001 occurs?
The robot stops immediately using ramp-down braking. Program processing is stopped. The program can be resumed from where it stopped after the E-stop is cleared and acknowledged.
