Sullair LS Series Error Code S002

Sullair Compressor Major Oil

Model: LS Series | Code: S002

Applicable Systems
LS Series

Symptoms

Oil separator maintenance indicator is active. The separator differential pressure has exceeded the service limit, or the runtime-based service timer has reached the change interval.

Possible Causes

  • Separator element saturated with oil aerosol from normal service life exhaustion
  • Oil degradation producing varnish and sludge that clogs the separator media
  • Excessive oil level causing foaming and overload of the separator capacity

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Step 1: Check the separator maintenance timer on the controller - compare elapsed hours to the 4000-hour service interval
If hours are near or above 4000, schedule a separator replacement
  2. Step 2: Inspect the oil condition through the sight glass - look for dark color, burnt smell, or foam
If oil is degraded, change oil and separator together; use only Sullair 24KT or Sullube
  3. Step 3: Verify oil level is at the center of the sight glass while running loaded
Drain to correct level if overfilled - overfill is a common cause of separator premature failure

How to Reset

Reset: Replace the separator element, verify the scavenge line is clear, and reset the maintenance timer via the controller menu: Service > Separator > Reset.

Common Replacement Parts

  • 2500-3900-00: Separator element, LS 16-25 (Flanged, 185 mm OD x 350 mm height)
  • 2500-3901-00: Scavenge line filter screen (Stainless mesh, 100 micron, cleanable)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: How much oil should I drain before removing the separator?

Drain approximately 80% of the sump oil to prevent spillage when the separator housing is opened. The exact volume is listed in the service manual for each model.

  • Q: What happens if the scavenge line is clogged?

Oil pools in the separator base and is carried over into the plant air. This causes oil contamination downstream and can starve the airend of lubrication.
