Engine coolant temperature above 105C; engine derate active to protect engine; overheating warning.
Possible Causes
- Coolant level low
- Radiator exterior fins clogged with debris
- Thermostat stuck closed
- Water pump impeller worn
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check coolant level at expansion tank (COLD engine)
Level at or above MIN mark - Step 2: Inspect radiator exterior for debris blockage
Radiator fins clean, air flowing freely - Step 3: Test thermostat opening temp (82-88C)
Thermostat opens at specified temp - Step 4: Check water pump for leakage/play
Pump bearing tight, no coolant leak - Step 5: Clear debris from radiator and top up coolant
Coolant temp below 95C at full load

Clear via Volvo Tech Tool after cooling system service.
