Applicable Systems
Wonderware System Platform
Symptoms
The Wonderware System Platform logs a warning that the system time is not synchronized across nodes. Time discrepancies between nodes can cause incorrect event ordering and alarm sequencing.
Possible Causes
- Windows Time Service is not running or the NTP source is unreachable on one or more nodes
- Time zone configuration differs between nodes, causing apparent time skew even when NTP is synchronized
- Galaxy nodes are in different physical locations with different NTP servers, causing divergent time sources
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the Windows Time Service status and source on all Galaxy nodes
Service is Running and all nodes reference the same NTP source with a sync offset under 5 seconds - Step 2: Verify the time zone setting is identical on all nodes
All nodes show the same time zone in Windows Date and Time settings - Step 3: Force a time resync on all nodes using w32tm /resync
All nodes report successful synchronization and the time offset drops below 1 second
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Start Windows Time Service on all nodes. 2) Configure the same NTP source and time zone. 3) Force resync. 4) Verify the time sync warning no longer appears in the SMC log.
