Applicable Systems
Bystronic Laser System
Symptoms
The Bystronic laser system displays alarm BYL002, indicating beam path misalignment. The laser beam is not centered on one or more mirrors or lenses in the optical path, causing power loss and potential optic damage.
Possible Causes
- Mirror alignment has drifted due to thermal expansion or mechanical vibration during cutting
- Mirror mount has loosened from handling or impact during maintenance or material loading
- Bellow or beam path enclosure has shifted, causing a mirror or lens to be partially blocked
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Perform a beam alignment check using an acrylic alignment target at each mirror station
Beam is centered on the alignment target at every mirror station with no offset - Step 2: Check the mirror mount tightness and the alignment screw locknuts
All mounts are tight and the alignment screws are locked with no looseness - Step 3: Inspect the bellow and beam path enclosure for damage or shifting
Bellows are intact and the beam path is clear with no partial obstruction at any point
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Realign the beam path using the alignment procedure. 2. Tighten and lock the mirror mounts. 3. Repair or replace damaged bellows. 4. Press RESET. 5. Verify the beam is centered and power is stable.
