Bystronic Laser System
Symptoms
The Bystronic laser system displays alarm BYL005, indicating protective window breakage. The protective window between the cutting head and the beam path has cracked or shattered, risking contamination of the entire optical system.
Possible Causes
- Protective window has been hit by spatter from the cutting process, causing a crack or chip
- Window has been thermally stressed by excessive laser power or poor cooling airflow to the cutting head
- Window was installed with fingerprints or contamination that absorbed laser energy and caused thermal fracture
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Remove the protective window and inspect it for cracks, chips, and contamination
Window is clean and intact with no cracks, chips, or visible contamination - Step 2: Check the cutting head cooling airflow and the assist gas pressure for adequate window protection
Cooling air is at the rated flow and the assist gas pressure prevents spatter from reaching the window - Step 3: Inspect the window mounting seal and the clamping ring for proper installation and cleanliness
Seal is intact and the window is clamped evenly without stress, with no contamination on the seating surface
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Replace the broken protective window with a new clean one. 2. Clean the mounting seat. 3. Restore cooling and assist gas. 4. Press RESET. 5. Verify no contamination reaches the focus lens in a test cut.
