Applicable Systems
Bystronic Laser System
Symptoms
The Bystronic laser system displays alarm BYL010, indicating cooling water temperature too high. The chiller is not maintaining the coolant supply temperature, risking thermal damage to the laser resonator and optics.
Possible Causes
- Chiller compressor has failed or is running at reduced capacity, not removing heat from the coolant
- Chiller condenser is blocked with dust or the condenser fan has failed, reducing heat rejection to the ambient air
- Coolant flow is too low due to a blocked filter or a worn pump, reducing heat transfer from the laser
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the chiller supply and return temperature against the setpoint
Supply temperature is at the setpoint, typically 18-22C, and the return temperature rise is within 5C of supply - Step 2: Inspect the chiller condenser for dust blockage and the fan operation
Condenser is clean and the fan runs at full speed when the compressor is operating - Step 3: Check the coolant flow rate and the condition of the coolant filter
Flow rate is at the rated value and the filter is clean with no pressure drop indication
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Repair or replace the chiller compressor. 2. Clean the condenser and replace the fan. 3. Replace the coolant filter and pump. 4. Press RESET. 5. Verify the coolant temperature is stable during continuous cutting.
