Bystronic Laser System
Symptoms
The Bystronic laser system displays alarm BYL009, indicating cutting nozzle blockage. The nozzle that directs the assist gas onto the cut kerf is partially or fully blocked, disrupting the gas flow and causing poor cut quality.
Possible Causes
- Spatter from the cutting process has accumulated in the nozzle orifice during piercing or cutting thick material
- Nozzle is damaged or the orifice edge is chipped from a collision with the material or the slat
- Nozzle tip is contaminated with molten material from cutting reactive metals such as titanium or aluminum
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Remove the nozzle and inspect the orifice for spatter, chips, or contamination
Nozzle orifice is clean and round with no spatter, chips, or contamination - Step 2: Check the nozzle for physical damage and compare the orifice diameter to the specification
Nozzle is undamaged and the orifice diameter matches the specification for the cutting parameters - Step 3: Clean the nozzle or replace it if damaged, and verify the nozzle alignment to the beam
Nozzle is clean and the beam is centered in the orifice with the nozzle alignment gauge
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Clean or replace the nozzle. 2. Verify nozzle alignment. 3. Press RESET. 4. Verify the gas flow pattern is correct and cut quality is restored in a test cut.
