Applicable Systems
Carrier Transicold Refrigeration Unit
Symptoms
The Carrier Transicold unit displays alarm CR001, indicating compressor high-temperature protection has been triggered. The compressor has shut down to prevent thermal damage to the motor windings.
Possible Causes
- Compressor discharge temperature has exceeded the 105C safety limit due to high condensing pressure
- Compressor oil cooler is not providing adequate cooling, causing bearing friction heat to accumulate
- Suction gas return temperature is too high from a malfunctioning evaporator or expansion valve
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the compressor discharge temperature on the controller display
Temperature is below 95C after the unit has stabilized at normal operating conditions - Step 2: Inspect the condenser coil for dirt, debris, or restricted airflow that would raise condensing pressure
Coil is clean and airflow is unrestricted across the entire coil surface - Step 3: Verify the oil cooler circulation and the oil temperature at the compressor bearing housing
Oil temperature is below 70C and the oil cooler is circulating properly
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Allow the compressor to cool below 80C. 2) Correct the root cause. 3) Press RESET on the controller. 4) Restart the unit and monitor discharge temperature for 30 minutes.
