Applicable Systems
Copeland Scroll Compressor (CoreSense/Comfort Alert)
Symptoms
The compressor reports a system high-pressure switch trip. The high-pressure safety switch has activated, cutting power to the compressor control circuit.
Possible Causes
- Condenser water flow insufficient in water-cooled systems
- Cooling tower performance degraded or offline
- Refrigerant overcharge raising condensing pressure
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check condenser water flow rate and pump operation
Flow rate meets the design specification - Step 2: Verify cooling tower fan and fill condition
Tower delivers design approach temperature - Step 3: Check refrigerant charge by subcooling measurement
Subcooling is within the specified range
How to Reset
To reset: Resolve the high-pressure condition, then manually reset the high-pressure switch.
