Symptoms
The ESAB welder displays error ES006, indicating a gas valve fault. The shielding gas solenoid valve is not opening or the gas flow is insufficient, risking weld porosity and oxidation.
Possible Causes
- Gas solenoid valve coil has failed or is not receiving the control signal from the PCB
- Gas regulator is set too low or the gas cylinder is empty, reducing gas flow to the torch
- Gas hose is kinked, blocked, or has a loose fitting causing a gas leak before the torch
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the gas solenoid valve coil resistance and the control signal at the valve terminals
Coil resistance matches the nameplate and the control signal is present when the torch trigger is pressed - Step 2: Verify the gas cylinder pressure and the regulator flow rate at the regulator outlet
Cylinder pressure is above the minimum and the flow rate is 15-25 L/min for MIG welding - Step 3: Inspect the gas hose from the regulator to the torch for kinks, blockages, or leaks
Hose is clear, not kinked, and no gas leaks are detected at any fitting using a soap solution
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Replace the gas solenoid valve or repair the control circuit. 2) Replace the gas cylinder if empty. 3) Repair or replace damaged gas hoses. 4) Press RESET. 5) Verify gas flow at the torch nozzle.
