Symptoms
The ESAB welder displays error ES007, indicating a torch switch fault. The torch trigger switch is not making contact or is intermittent, preventing the welder from starting the arc or gas pre-flow.
Possible Causes
- Torch trigger switch contacts are worn or oxidized, causing intermittent or no contact
- Torch control cable is damaged or the connector at the welder is loose or corroded
- Torch switch circuit on the PCB is open due to a failed component or a blown fuse
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Test the torch trigger switch continuity by pressing and releasing the trigger
Switch closes cleanly when pressed and opens when released, with no intermittent contact - Step 2: Inspect the torch control cable and connector for damage or corrosion
Cable is intact with no cuts or abrasions and the connector pins are clean and tight - Step 3: Check the torch switch circuit fuse and the input on the PCB
Fuse is intact and the PCB input changes state when the trigger is pressed
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Replace the torch trigger switch or the torch assembly. 2) Repair or replace the control cable. 3) Replace the PCB fuse if blown. 4) Press RESET. 5) Verify the arc starts when the trigger is pressed.
