Kaeser ASD/BS Series Error Code K002

Kaeser Compressor Major Oil

Model: ASD/BS Series | Code: K002

Applicable Systems
ASD/BS Series

Symptoms

Oil pressure in the lubrication circuit is below the minimum 2.2 bar (32 psi) required for airend bearing lubrication. The low oil pressure switch triggers a shutdown.

Possible Causes

  • Oil level in the sump below the minimum mark due to leaks or separator carryover
  • Oil pump drive coupling sheared or oil pump internal gear wear
  • Oil filter element severely clogged, creating excessive suction head loss
  • Oil pressure switch out of calibration or failed internally

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Step 1: Check the oil level sight glass with the compressor stopped and cooled - oil must be between min and max marks
Top up with Kaeser Sigma Fluid S-460 if low; inspect all drain plugs, fittings, and the separator for leaks
  2. Step 2: Remove the oil pump inspection cover and check the drive coupling between the airend and pump
Replace the coupling spider if cracked or worn; verify pump shaft rotates freely
  3. Step 3: Replace the oil filter element and inspect the old element for metal particles or sludge
If metal is found, inspect the airend bearings and take an oil sample for ferrography analysis
  4. Step 4: Remove the oil pressure switch and connect a calibrated gauge to the same port
Run the compressor and compare actual pressure to the switch setpoint. Replace the switch if actual pressure is >2.5 bar but alarm persists

How to Reset

Reset: Correct the oil level or repair the pump, then power cycle the Sigma Control 2. The alarm clears after a 30-second loaded run with oil pressure confirmed above 2.5 bar.

Common Replacement Parts

  • 6.1990.0: Oil pump assembly, ASD 40-50 (External gear pump, 8 cc/rev)
  • 6.1991.0: Oil pump coupling spider (Polyurethane, 24 mm jaw coupling)
  • 6.1992.0: Oil filter element (Spin-on, M24x1.5 thread, 100 mm height)
  • 6.1993.0: Oil pressure switch (Adjustable 1.5-3.5 bar, G1/4)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: What oil does Kaeser recommend for the ASD series?

Sigma Fluid S-460 (ISO VG 46 synthetic) for most applications. For food-grade or high-temperature use, consult the factory for Sigma Fluid FG or HT variants.

  • Q: How much oil does an ASD 40 hold?

Approximately 25 liters. Always fill to the center of the sight glass with the compressor stopped and on level ground.
