Applicable Systems
i950
Symptoms
The i950 reports a braking resistor overheat fault. The braking resistor temperature exceeded the safe limit due to excessive regenerative duty.
Possible Causes
- Regenerative duty cycle exceeding the resistor power rating
- Braking resistor value incorrect causing excessive current
- Frequent deceleration cycles without adequate cooling time
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Reduce the deceleration frequency or increase the decel time
Regenerative energy per cycle is reduced - Step 2: Verify the braking resistor matches the drive specified rating
Resistor rating is adequate for the application - Step 3: Upgrade to a larger braking resistor if duty cycle cannot be reduced
Larger resistor handles the regenerative load
How to Reset
To reset: Allow the resistor to cool, reduce regenerative duty, then reset.
