Symptoms
The Roland printing press displays error R001, indicating the ink roller temperature is too high. Elevated roller temperature affects ink viscosity and can cause emulsification or slinging.
Possible Causes
- Cooling water flow to the ink rollers is restricted or interrupted
- Ink formulation incompatible with the press speed and coverage
- Ambient temperature in the pressroom exceeds 28 degrees Celsius
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the cooling water supply valve and flow meter for the ink rollers
Water flow is steady and within the manufacturer specified range - Step 2: Verify the ink viscosity matches the press manufacturer's recommendation
Ink viscosity is within plus or minus 2 seconds of the specified value on the Zahn cup - Step 3: Measure the pressroom ambient temperature and humidity
Temperature is below 26C and relative humidity is between 45 and 60 percent
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Restore cooling water flow to the ink rollers. 2) Adjust the pressroom HVAC if temperature is excessive. 3) Press the RESET button on the console after temperature normalizes.
