Symptoms
The PROFINET communication to the SIMOCODE pro motor management device is interrupted. The PLC reports a module fault and the device status LED on the SIMOCODE turns red. The motor protection remains active.
Possible Causes
- PROFINET cable disconnected or damaged at the SIMOCODE terminal
- IP address conflict or duplicate device name on the network
- SIMOCODE power supply undervoltage causing communication dropout
- EMI coupling into the Ethernet cable from adjacent power cables
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the RJ45 connector seating and cable continuity with a cable tester
Cable passes TIA/EIA-568 continuity and shield continuity tests - Step 2: Verify the SIMOCODE IP address and device name match the PLC hardware configuration
No duplicate IP addresses and the device name is unique on the subnet - Step 3: Measure the 24V DC auxiliary supply at the SIMOCODE power terminals
Voltage is stable within 20.4-28.8V DC (typical SIMOCODE supply range) - Step 4: Reroute the PROFINET cable >300 mm from power cables and verify shield grounding at one end only
Communication re-establishes and remains stable under load
How to Reset
Acknowledge the communication fault in the PLC diagnostic buffer after restoring the physical link. The SIMOCODE protection trips remain active independently of the bus communication.
Common Replacement Parts
- 3UF7011-1AB00-0: Siemens SIMOCODE pro V PN (Includes basic unit, current measuring module, and PROFINET interface)
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Does SIMOCODE still protect the motor if PROFINET fails?
Yes. All protection functions are hardwired and operate autonomously. Only remote monitoring and control are lost.
- Q: What is the maximum PROFINET cable length?
Up to 100 m per segment with standard Cat5e shielded cable. Use switches or repeaters for longer runs.
