Uhlmann Blister Machine
Symptoms
The Uhlmann blister machine displays alarm U003, indicating forming depth deviation. The formed blister cavity depth is not matching the setpoint, resulting in pockets that are too shallow or too deep for the product.
Possible Causes
- Forming plug stroke is set incorrectly, not pushing the film to the required depth in the cavity mold
- Forming film thickness is out of specification, causing the forming depth to vary with material variation
- Forming station guide rails or cam followers are worn, causing the forming depth to vary between cycles
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the forming plug stroke setting against the product specification
Stroke setting matches the required cavity depth for the current product - Step 2: Measure the forming film thickness with a micrometer at several points
Film thickness is within the supplier's tolerance, typically plus or minus 5 percent of nominal - Step 3: Inspect the forming station guide rails and cam followers for wear
Guide rails and cam followers are within tolerance with no excessive play or wear
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Adjust the forming plug stroke. 2) Replace out-of-spec film. 3) Replace worn guide rails and cam followers. 4) Press RESET. 5) Verify cavity depth in a test run.
