Applicable Systems
Wonderware System Platform
Symptoms
The Wonderware System Platform logs an alarm indicating DAServer communication has been interrupted. Data tags are no longer updating, and the Galaxy shows the device as offline.
Possible Causes
- Network connection to the PLC or RTU has failed due to a cable fault or switch outage
- DAServer service crashed or stopped due to a memory leak or driver conflict
- PLC at the remote site has gone offline or changed its IP address without updating the DAServer topic configuration
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the network path to the PLC by pinging the device IP address from the Wonderware server
Ping returns replies with no timeouts, confirming network connectivity - Step 2: Verify the DAServer service status in Windows Services and the SMC log
Service is Running and the SMC log shows no fatal errors in the last hour - Step 3: Verify the PLC is online and the topic configuration IP matches the current device address
PLC responds on the configured IP and the topic configuration matches exactly
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Restart the DAServer service from the SMC console. 2) Re-establish network connectivity. 3) Reload the topic configuration. 4) Verify tag updates resume in the Galaxy.
