Applicable Systems
Octagon 4-Comp
Symptoms
The compressor reports high oil temperature. The lubricating oil temperature has exceeded the safe operating limit.
Possible Causes
- Oil cooler fouled or cooling water flow insufficient
- High discharge temperature transferring heat to the oil system
- Excessive friction from bearing wear generating heat
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Inspect the oil cooler and verify cooling medium flow
Cooler is clean and flow rate meets specification - Step 2: Verify discharge temperature is within normal limits
Discharge temperature is below the alarm setpoint - Step 3: Check bearing condition through oil analysis
Oil sample shows no excessive metal particles
How to Reset
To reset: Reduce oil temperature below the threshold, then clear the alarm on the controller.
