Applicable Systems
Copeland Scroll Compressor (CoreSense/Comfort Alert)
Symptoms
The compressor reports high oil temperature. The lubricating oil temperature has exceeded the safe operating limit, risking oil breakdown and bearing damage.
Possible Causes
- Inadequate oil cooling in the system design
- High discharge temperature transferring heat to the oil
- Oil contamination with refrigerant reducing lubrication effectiveness
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the oil cooler operation and cooling medium flow
Oil temperature returns to the normal operating range - Step 2: Verify discharge temperature is within limits to prevent oil overheating
Discharge temperature is below the alarm threshold - Step 3: Sample the oil and test for contamination or acidity
Oil sample passes the acid and moisture tests
How to Reset
To reset: Reduce oil temperature below the alarm threshold, then clear the fault code.
