Applicable Systems
Copeland Scroll Compressor (CoreSense/Comfort Alert)
Symptoms
The compressor reports an oil flow fault. The oil flow sensor indicates insufficient oil circulation for safe compressor operation.
Possible Causes
- Oil pump failure or degraded pump performance
- Oil filter clogged with debris or contaminants
- Oil passage blocked by varnish or carbon deposits
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the oil pump operation and pressure output
Pump delivers pressure within specification - Step 2: Replace the oil filter if the pressure drop across it is excessive
New filter installed with normal pressure drop - Step 3: Flush oil passages if blockage is suspected
Oil flows freely through all passages
How to Reset
To reset: Restore adequate oil flow, then reset the oil flow safety control.
