Symptoms
SNMP trap sender shows 'Agent Timeout' and NMS receives no traps from the HMI.
Possible Causes
- SNMP community string mismatch between Graphite trap configuration and NMS.
- UDP port 162 blocked by plant firewall or network segmentation.
- Graphite network interface configured with wrong gateway for the NMS subnet.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Verify the SNMPv2c community string in Crimson matches the NMS trap receiver.
Strings match character-for-character including case. - Step 2: Send a test UDP packet to the NMS from a laptop on the same subnet using netcat.
Packet arrives at NMS and Wireshark confirms UDP 162 is open. - Step 3: Check the default gateway and subnet mask in the Graphite network settings.
Gateway is the correct L3 switch for the NMS VLAN and routing is enabled.
How to Reset
Align SNMP community strings, open UDP 162 in the firewall, and correct the default gateway.
