Applicable Systems
Street Crane Overhead Crane
Symptoms
The Street Crane system displays alarm ST007, indicating wire rope broken wire limit exceeded. The hoist wire rope has broken wires exceeding the discard criteria, requiring immediate rope replacement before further lifting.
Possible Causes
- Wire rope has reached the end of its service life from fatigue and wear over many lifting cycles
- Rope has been subjected to shock loading or overload, causing accelerated wire breakage
- Rope lubrication has been neglected, causing corrosion and internal wire breakage from corrosion fatigue
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Inspect the wire rope over its entire length for broken wires, corrosion, and diameter reduction
Broken wires per lay length are below the discard criterion, typically 10 percent of visible wires - Step 2: Check the rope diameter against the original diameter to measure wear or crushing
Diameter reduction is less than 10 percent of the nominal rope diameter - Step 3: Inspect the rope for corrosion and verify the rope lubrication is adequate
No corrosion is visible and the rope is adequately lubricated with no dry or rusty sections
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Replace the wire rope with a new rope of the correct specification. 2. Inspect and replace the rope sheaves if worn. 3. Press RESET. 4. Verify the new rope runs smoothly through the sheave block.
