Applicable Systems
Electrolux Dryer
Symptoms
The dryer displays error E003, indicating a heater circuit open fault. The heating element has an open circuit or the thermal fuse has blown, resulting in no heat during the drying cycle.
Possible Causes
- Heating element coil burned out and created an open circuit
- Thermal cut-off fuse tripped due to previous overheating event
- High-limit thermostat failed open due to repeated thermal cycling
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Test the heating element resistance with a multimeter
Resistance reads within specified range, typically 5-15 ohms depending on wattage - Step 2: Test the thermal cut-off fuse for continuity
Fuse shows closed circuit; if open, it has blown and must be replaced - Step 3: Check the high-limit thermostat for continuity
Thermostat shows closed circuit at room temperature
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Replace the open heater element or blown thermal fuse. 2) Verify the exhaust vent is clear before restarting. 3) Press the power button to clear the error and restart the cycle.
