Symptoms
The ESAB welder displays error ES009, indicating low cooling water flow. The water cooling system for the torch is not delivering sufficient flow, risking torch overheating and damage to the contact tip.
Possible Causes
- Cooling water pump has failed or is air-locked, preventing circulation through the torch
- Coolant level in the reservoir is below the minimum, causing the pump to cavitate
- Coolant lines are kinked or the quick-connect fittings are partially blocked
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the coolant pump operation by listening for pump noise and feeling for vibration
Pump is running, producing a steady hum, and the output line is cool to the touch - Step 2: Verify the coolant level in the reservoir is above the minimum mark
Coolant level is at or above the full mark on the reservoir sight glass - Step 3: Inspect the coolant lines for kinks and verify the quick-connect fittings are fully seated
Lines are not kinked and all fittings click into place with no partial engagement
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Replace or bleed the coolant pump. 2) Top up the coolant to the correct level. 3) Straighten or replace kinked lines and seat fittings. 4) Press RESET. 5) Verify water flow at the torch return line.
