KSB Centrifugal Pump
Symptoms
The KSB pump displays alarm K004, indicating excessive pump vibration. Vibration levels have exceeded the alarm threshold, risking mechanical damage to bearings, seals, and connected piping.
Possible Causes
- Pump and motor misalignment or soft foot condition
- Impeller imbalance due to erosion, corrosion, or fouling
- Cavitation causing hydraulic imbalance and impeller damage
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check coupling alignment using dial indicators or laser alignment tool
Alignment is within 0.05mm parallel and angular offset specifications - Step 2: Inspect the impeller for erosion, deposits, or missing material
Impeller is balanced and shows no significant material loss or buildup - Step 3: Check suction conditions for cavitation signs
NPSH available exceeds NPSH required by at least 1 meter margin
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Stop the pump and correct alignment or impeller condition. 2) Address any cavitation by improving suction conditions. 3) Restart and verify vibration levels are within ISO 10816 limits.
