Applicable Systems
KSB Centrifugal Pump
Symptoms
The KSB pump displays alarm K010, indicating poor coupling alignment between pump and driver. Misalignment causes vibration, bearing overload, and premature coupling element failure.
Possible Causes
- Thermal growth not accounted for during cold alignment
- Pipe strain displacing the pump from its aligned position
- Foundation settling or baseplate deflection after installation
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Perform hot alignment check using dial indicators or laser tool
Alignment is within 0.05mm for both parallel and angular offsets at operating temperature - Step 2: Check for pipe strain by loosening flange bolts and observing movement
Pump flange does not move when piping bolts are loosened - Step 3: Inspect the baseplate and foundation for cracks or deflection
Baseplate is level and rigid with no visible cracks or settling
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Correct coupling alignment accounting for thermal growth. 2) Eliminate pipe strain by adjusting piping supports. 3) Repair foundation if settling is detected. 4) Restart after verification.
