Applicable Systems
KSB Centrifugal Pump
Symptoms
The KSB pump displays alarm K008, indicating impeller wear beyond acceptable limits. The impeller material has eroded or corroded, reducing hydraulic efficiency and performance.
Possible Causes
- Abrasive particles in the pumped fluid causing erosion
- Cavitation pitting from prolonged NPSH-deficient operation
- Chemical corrosion from incompatible fluid or pH extremes
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Inspect the impeller vanes and eye for material loss or pitting
Impeller shows no significant erosion, pitting, or vane thinning beyond 5 percent - Step 2: Check fluid analysis for abrasive content or corrosive properties
Fluid is within the material compatibility chart for the impeller alloy - Step 3: Measure impeller diameter and compare to original specification
Diameter is within the allowable trim range for the pump model
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Replace the worn impeller with a new one of correct material. 2) Address the root cause of erosion, cavitation, or corrosion. 3) Restart and verify performance.
