Applicable Systems
KSB Centrifugal Pump
Symptoms
The KSB pump displays alarm K006, indicating insufficient discharge pressure. The pump cannot generate the required head, which may be caused by mechanical wear or system changes.
Possible Causes
- Impeller diameter reduced by erosion or cavitation damage
- Internal wear ring clearance excessive, causing internal recirculation
- Pump speed lower than design due to motor or VFD issue
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Measure the pump speed with a tachometer and compare to design RPM
Pump speed matches the design speed within 2 percent - Step 2: Compare actual performance curve to original factory test curve
Head-flow point falls on the expected performance curve for current impeller diameter - Step 3: Inspect wear ring clearance if performance has degraded over time
Wear ring clearance is within the maximum allowable for the pump model
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Correct the pump speed if a VFD or motor issue exists. 2) Replace worn impeller or wear rings if performance has degraded. 3) Restart and verify pressure.
