Symptoms
The Intelligent Power Module (IPM) has detected an internal abnormality. This is a hardware-level protection that triggers when the IPM detects over-temperature, over-current, or short circuit within the power semiconductor module.
Possible Causes
- IPM internal over-temperature due to excessive load or insufficient cooling
- IPM internal short circuit of IGBT elements
- Drive cooling fan failure or blocked airflow
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the drive cooling fan for proper operation and clean any dust blocking airflow
Fan operates normally and airflow is unobstructed - Step 2: Reduce the load or duty cycle to bring the drive within rated operating conditions
Drive operates within rated temperature and current limits - Step 3: If the IPM is damaged internally, the drive must be replaced or sent for repair
New drive operates without IPM faults
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Allow the drive to cool if overheated. 2) Cycle power OFF then ON. 3) Re-enable the servo. If the alarm returns immediately, the IPM is likely damaged and the drive needs replacement.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What does Err14.1 IPM abnormal mean?
The Intelligent Power Module detected an internal fault (over-temperature, short circuit). If it recurs after cooling and power cycle, the drive needs replacement.
