Symptoms
The motor speed has exceeded the overspeed protection threshold. This can occur during rapid deceleration with high-inertia loads or when the speed command exceeds the motor's rated maximum speed.
Possible Causes
- Motor speed exceeded the maximum rated RPM
- Speed command from the controller is set too high
- Runaway motor due to feedback loss (Err21) or control loop instability
Troubleshooting Steps
- Step 1: Check the maximum speed setting in the drive parameters
Maximum speed parameter matches or is below the motor's rated speed - Step 2: Verify the speed command from the controller does not exceed the rated speed
Speed command is within rated limits - Step 3: Check for encoder feedback issues that could cause speed control instability
Encoder feedback is reliable and accurate - Step 4: Reduce the speed command or increase the speed limit parameter if appropriate
Motor operates within the safe speed range
How to Reset
To reset: 1) Reduce the speed command to within rated limits. 2) Cycle power OFF then ON. 3) Re-enable the servo.
