Panasonic MINAS A5 Servo Drive Error Err18.1

Panasonic PLC & VFD Critical Hardware

Model: MINAS A5 | Code: Err18.1

Applicable Systems
MINAS A5 MINAS A6 MINAS A5II FP-X FP7

Symptoms

The regenerative braking transistor circuit has detected an abnormality. The transistor that switches the braking resistor on and off is faulty or has failed.

Possible Causes

  • Regenerative transistor (Tr) is short-circuited or open
  • Transistor driver circuit failure
  • Braking resistor is short-circuited, damaging the transistor

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Step 1: Disconnect the braking resistor and check its resistance
Resistor resistance is within specification and not shorted
  2. Step 2: If the resistor is OK, the regen transistor is likely damaged - the drive needs repair or replacement
Drive is repaired or replaced and operates normally
  3. Step 3: Verify the braking resistor was correctly sized to prevent recurrence
Resistor is properly rated for the application

How to Reset

To reset: 1) Disconnect the braking resistor to prevent further damage. 2) Cycle power OFF then ON. 3) If the alarm persists, the drive requires factory repair. Do not continue operation with a faulty regen transistor.
