Panasonic MINAS A5 Servo Drive Error Err18.0

Panasonic PLC & VFD Critical Power

Model: MINAS A5 | Code: Err18.0

Applicable Systems
MINAS A5 MINAS A6 MINAS A5II FP-X FP7

Symptoms

The regenerative braking resistor is overloaded due to excessive regenerative energy dissipation. This occurs when the motor decelerates frequently with high inertia loads.

Possible Causes

  • Regenerative resistor wattage rating is too small for the application
  • Deceleration frequency is too high for the resistor's duty cycle
  • No external regenerative resistor installed and internal resistor is insufficient

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Step 1: Check the regenerative resistor specifications against the calculated regen energy
Resistor wattage rating meets or exceeds the calculated requirement
  2. Step 2: Increase deceleration time to reduce peak regen energy
No overload with longer deceleration time
  3. Step 3: Install a larger external regenerative braking resistor if needed
External resistor handles regen energy without overheating
  4. Step 4: Reduce the frequency of deceleration cycles if possible
Regen duty cycle is within resistor specifications

How to Reset

To reset: 1) Allow the resistor to cool. 2) Cycle power OFF then ON. 3) Re-enable the servo. Install properly sized resistor before resetting.
